Scribner Publishing

We wanted to answer the burning question haunting die-hard Stephen King fans: What ever happened to the young Danny Torrance? Anticipating a huge response to "Doctor Sleep," Stephen King's long-awaited sequel to "The Shining," Scribner wanted to ensure that the book got the reception it deserved.

Having worked together previously on an award-winning website for the bestseller "Far From The Tree," Scribner tapped DOMANI to build a digital experience that would both generate buzz leading up to the sequel's release and drive people to pre-order the book.

From the Overlook Hotel to your mobile device.

Engaging, immersive, and riveting, “Where Is Danny Torrance” is a dual-screen Google Chrome experiment that weaves several of the novel’s key themes and characters into a linear narrative, while still keeping spoilers at bay.

The interactive and responsive experience syncs the visitor’s mobile device with their desktop, letting them tap into their own “Shining” while influencing parts of the story as it unfolds. The user-driven microsite connects fans to the troubled protagonist, eventually allowing Danny to “hijack” their browser in order to immerse them in his story.

By bringing a middle-aged Danny to life, we managed to incorporate visitors’ devices into the story itself – instead of simply presenting a static series of events.Taking advantage of Chrome’s unique capabilities, we were able to offer a novel storytelling technique that not only drummed up publicity, but also allowed fans to literally become a part of the very story they were exploring.

  • Digital storytelling for the leading storyteller of a generation
  • Google Chrome experience guides fans through the mind of an adult Danny Torrance
  • Pairs mobile device and desktop for the ultimate dual screen experience
  • Curiosity, amplified. From beginning to end, we crafted a digital experience like no other that gave readers a taste of Danny's life and left them hungry for much, much more.
