With better video integration, sexier imagery, and a UI that felt like an extension of the car itself, the new VW.com evolved from a reference site to a platform for diving headfirst into the Volkswagen universe. The pièce de résistance was the contextual search module, where tagged content enabled visitors to find what they were looking for no matter where they were on the site.
The user experience was simple and seamless. We produced an interactive genealogical matrix for users to crossbreed thousands of VW Rabbit offspring, and utilized Yahoo! Maps API in the redesigned Dealer Locator to compel visitors to schedule a test drive, get a quote and check out special offers.
But design of a truly tactile user experience is only part of the story. We created several integrated online marketing campaigns for Jetta, Rabbit, and GTI, for which we were honored by the Cannes Lions and One Show awards. Rich media banners included pinball banners that let users propel a mini GTI across the screen and a personalized VW Rabbit desktop widget that delivered daily free events in a user's local area. The shiny new VW.com represents our passion for not simply communicating a marketing message, but for actively engaging an audience with a brand.
